Her contribution was instrumental in helping with the U.S. Women's World Cup to win consecutive championships between 2015 and 2019. In 2018, she took on the role of cocaptain for the U.S. team. In the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo Japan postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic Rapinoe scored two goals in the bronze medal game when she helped the United States defeated Australia by a four-to-3 score.
